Fitness & Health: My Energy Boosting Smoothie

Perfect Breakfast Smoothie for Training

I love a good smoothie! You can whip them up the night before and have it on the way to work or at your desk.

After a hard training session it’s important to refuel your body for the next one, so I like to break the “Bananas after training only” rule and have one my delicious smoothie for my breakfast.

What’s in it?

Vita Coco Coconut Water

A Table Spoon of Peanut Butter

1 Banana

A Teaspoon of Chia Seeds

It’s as simple as that!

Just blend it up and serve. Delicious.

Why is it the perfect smoothie?

Ideally this would have protein in it as well, however I’m still on a quest to find a powder that’s I can take. So aside from that, why is good for.

1. Coconut Water is an excellent base because it has a great flavour and fantastic nutritional properties. It is high in potassium, a mineral that is crucial whether you are exercising or not. Not only does it help with anxiety and stress levels, it also boosts your metabolism and keeps your blood pressure low. It’s packed with electrolytes so it also reinstates the energy that you lost the day before through exercise.

2. Peanut Butter

Who doesn’t love peanut butter? Aside from those with allergies and bizarre taste… I use Meridian Peanut Butter; it’s PB in it’s purest from without it being a tub of peanuts. Furthermore it’s delicious.

Because of its purity, one tablespoon has about 14 grams of protein, which is tickety-boo for breakfast time after training the night before. Protein is key for maintaining your muscle tissue and is therefore an important player in battling after exercise soreness.

3. Banana

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that bananas are the business, nutritionally speaking. They are rich in B6, a great macronutrient for the metabolism, they sustain your blood sugar levels and they are good for digestion.

4. Chia Seeds

There are plenty of ways you can get Chia seeds in to your diet and because they are tasteless they go well in this smoothie. The seeds are rich in protein, again, very important, and is also an antioxidant which is always beneficial for the body, no matter how clean you eat, as far as I’m aware.

The perfect combo for the morning after an intense session. And whatsmore is it actually tastes nice, unlike a lot of healthy smooties you’ll come across on the www.

Have you got any smoothie recipes you’d like to share? Will you be trying this? To the comments.

  1. I cringe at the thought of adding greens to it; no point in choking something down that you don’t like the taste of; it’s important to enjoy healthy food for its taste as well as its benefits. This one delish, trust me.
