Music Preview: Oxegen 2013

Goldenplec announced that Denis Desmond of MCD confirmed that Oxegen will be returning this year in August.

The festival will be scaled back to a two day even on August 3rd and 4th, which is likely to clash with a number of other music festivals such as the revered Castlepalooza and Indiependence. Both smaller festivals gained a lot of attention last year in the absence of Oxegen so it will be intriguing to watch things unfold over the coming months.

In December 2011 organisers MCD announced , despite speculation, the festival was not relocating to Dublin and that it would in fact not go ahead in the Summer of 2012. We have heard no news thus far on the status of the festival this year but the website clearly says ‘See you in 2013’.

Music & Everything will be your fountain of knowledge when it comes to announcements if it does go ahead. Will festival lovers be heading back to Punchestown? or will it become an urban event, closer to Dublin and more easily accessible?

Oxegen 2013 Lineup

T in The Park already announced Alt-J, Paloma Faith, Of Monsters and Men so it is incredibly likely that we will see them take to the stage at Oxegen’s reprisal. P Don’t be surprised if David Bowie, who announced a new album in January, makes appearance as the token act of years gone by. Other acts releasing albums this year included Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Azelia Banks and Queens of The Stone Age so they are also likely to turn up unless they are confirmed for Electric Picnic.

Announcements for the festival line-up should begin this month.
